Green Futures

A year-long cohort programme including skills building activities, workplace visits and employer interactions, and a university campus visit – all with a focus on green skills, jobs and industries.

“Working with this programme has had a positive impact on our students, providing them with valuable opportunities to develop both personally and professionally. Throughout the sessions, students demonstrated increased confidence in communicating with others, improved teamwork, and greater engagement in activities outside of the classroom.

The programme encouraged students to think about their future aspirations, develop transferable skills, and build resilience through new experiences. Many students who were initially hesitant became more willing to participate, ask questions, and contribute their ideas, showing noticeable growth in confidence and self-belief.” School link staff member.

Green Skills

Taking a two-pronged approach, the Green Skills programme brings together young people and green employers to improve young people’s ability to access future green careers by understanding and developing the skills required.

Prong 1 – Through training provided by SBY, the programme helps local green employers to better connect with diverse local young talent. Regardless of capacity or experience, SBY can offer tailored advice on how to:

• • Develop inspiring activities
  • Create work experience opportunities
  • Engage with schools and colleges
  • Connect with the right people to support employment of apprentices

Prong 2 – Cohorts of 15 young people per school participate in two activities: an in-school Employability Workshop, co-delivered by a green employer; an Industry Day hosted by the green employer.
