Listening to the birds this morning it certainly seems like they were having a party. And now with flowers opening up and tree blossom brightening up our streets it does seem like the natural world is having a party.

And wouldn’t we all like a party after the winter of lockdowns and home schooling? But of course, that cannot happen quite yet. But we can start to prepare for the summer and use this spring as a time to get ready to meet summer full on with new ideas and goals. Spring clean ourselves as well as our rooms.

Do you know where one of the busiest places is in most cities and towns at this time?

It’s the recycling centres and refuse collection sites as people start to spring clean and get rid of stuff they no longer need or want.

And that has got me thinking about the people who work there and about waste and recycling and how important this sector is for the future of our planet. We all create waste and although we should first think about reducing excess waste it is also important to consider what we do with things when we no longer need or can use them. This is part of the circular economy, low carbon goals that we should all be working towards.

The shift to a greener economy could create 24 million new jobs globally by 2030 if the right policies are put in place, says the International Labour Organization (ILO).

So, there are lots of opportunities out there from waste collection to energy production, from upcycling to designing how products can be broken down once their life has come to an end.

Why not spring clean your ideas on careers and check out the following websites? You might just find the missing part like the lost sock that you always seem to find when cleaning your room out.

And as the saying goes – “Where there’s muck there’s money”!
