What is your name? Laura Barney
What is your role within SBY? I am the project coordinator for Unlocking Potential and I am lucky enough to also be overseeing some of the Learning to Lead programme too.
What are you looking forward to doing at SBY? I am looking forward to getting to know and working with all the young people. I can’t wait to get to experience all of the amazing activities with them that we have lined up this year. The range of activities is huge and I know we will all learn lots whilst having a great time!
Tell us why you love working with young people? I have worked with young people in a variety of roles throughout my career, including as a family support worker and Head of Year in secondary school. I have always been passionate about providing young people with the skills and support they need to enable them to thrive and develop a belief that they can achieve anything they put their mind to. Seeing a young person develop new skills or increase their confidence is hugely rewarding and is what makes me love my job!
